A big shout out to Officer Connel and Officer Hurtle of Pickens County Sheriff’s Department for their service. They were a huge part of Strike Team 8’s success by providing navigation, communications and safety in support of CCSAR K9 Maggie.
Additional agencies assisting Pickens County in this search were Cherokee County Fire SAR Team, Dawson County Fire, Gilmer County Fire, Big Canoe Fire Rescue, City of Jasper Fire, GEMA SARS team, Georgia DNR and GSP Aviation.
It takes the whole Team!

It takes skilled searchers, and a command staff that properly documents where the searchers have already covered.

Thank you for all you do! You are very appreciated!

When a SAR K9 finds their lost subject safe and sound....it is because of the TEAM. Not the K9 and their Handler, I mean the WHOLE Team behind that K9!
There is no other search scenario where the whole Team is more intimately involved in a missions successful outcome.
When it is a SAR K9 that completes the find it takes a remarkable number of people to get to that moment of joy and accomplishment.
Every person that was involved from that first puppy run-away drill, the multitude of volunteers that laid a trail in the rain/heat/cold/dark/city streets or waited patiently in the woods for hours, the ones who saved that T-shirt that they slept in for a scent article the next day, every Mission Ready Certification Professional that put that K9 and their Handler through their paces and signed off on their proficiency, the Veteranarians that watch over the K9s health, all the way through that K9s career they ALL have a part in that successful find.
So as Maggie’s Handler and her voice to all of you,
She says a heart felt Thank you! YOU all did a fantastic job!
😊

Way to go team. All the long hours of training payed off.

Well said

Request for search assistance from Pickens County for a missing 72 year old person with medical conditions. Last seen walking at approximately 1500 hrs Sunday by neighbors down the road.
Cherokee County Fire Search and Rescue Team deployed in an assistance capacity pairing up with local search teams working exceedingly challenging terrain and in remarkably difficult weather conditions. Multiple missions by multiple surrounding area Search teams and K9 teams deployed throughout the day and into the evening. Search continued into Monday with an additional request by Pickens County officials for search resource assistance. Additional Cherokee SAR teams deployed with CCSAR K9 team.
Strike Team 8, consisting of CCSAR K9, and two PCPD located subject around 1330 Sunday after following trail from PLS (Point Last Seen) to locate subject at an abandoned residential build site.
Subject was cold, wet and very happy to see the Search K9.
Subject was able to walk out with assistance to ATV transport and then down the trail to an awaiting ambulance.
The best conclusion to any search. Subject located, safe and sound and reunited with family and with no searcher injuries.

These things we do so that others may live.
